ehh. i feel like this is a trick question, like whatever i think is going to be wrong. but then again, i don't think there is a right OR wrong answer. each person could get something completely different out of every single verse in the bible. so here goes...
for me, this is a really powerful verse. & its interesting that you chose it this week because it really spoke to me. i think it means that each of us thinks we know what we want and how we're going to accomplish it. and that WE are the only factor in our lives. i am a planner. its really bad actually. i have my whole life planned out. where i want to go to college, what i want to be, what my wedding will be like, what kind of house i will live in, etc. & yeah, its great to set goals. but no matter what i have planned, God has the final say. maybe he doesn't want me to be a singer. maybe he wants me to be a mechanic. idk. thats crazy. but you know what i mean. its so hard, but its really important to sit back and listen to Him. we should pray for His guidance and help to accomplish the goals we set for ourselves. but our prayer should first and foremost ALWAYS be "jesus, whatever your will is, that is what i want. help me to do your will, carry out your plan, spread the Word you brought to me".
OKAY! so i think it means that we can PLAN (which plan means to scheme BEFOREHAND) what we want to do in life, but God is the one who actually decides if that PLAN is right for you, so even if you think you have the right plan, God might have a different STEP for you :) LOVE YOU GUYS!
Wow. For a long time I wanted "PROVERBS 16:9" tattooed on the bottom of my foot. (Yes, Caroline did!) I had forgotten about that, until I saw this entry. I have not, however, forgotten what the verse means to me.
This sums up the whole idea of who God is in relation to us. He is not a puppeteer controlling our every move; but he still wants us to reach our potential.. our destiny. He's our GUIDE.
He intervenes without controlling, cares without hurting. That's who God is. It voids out determinism but also argues against deism. It sums up the whole "God-the-Father part" of Christianity to me!!

what this verse means to me is that we can plan out our whole life, but with each step we take, following God, our whole plan can change.
i guess what i took this to mean is that its okay to plan out your life and set goals, but be prepared for God to have the final say. the smallest decisions in life can change everything, and as you work closer and closer to your goals, and also grow in your relationship with God, you may realize that those plans change.
How wonderful to know that God is our director,its so nice to know that our creator is directing our lives, not ourselves. He knows already our destiny, He has got wounderful plans for us. So let us relax and rely on His plans, let us wait for Him to direct us in all we do.
